Comments in LabArchives make collaboration simple and efficient. They allow members to leave quick notes, feedback, or reminders directly on notebook entries, pages, or folders—keeping conversations in context and work moving forward. Anyone with access to a shared entry can see and respond to comments. You can also mention members to notify them directly about the comment or share entries directly through a comment.
Note: Since comments aren’t part of the permanent notebook record, they’re best suited for temporary notes and informal discussions. If the comment contains data, it is suggested to create a new notebook entry rather than using a comment.
Adding and Managing Comments
To add a comment, hover over the entry to reveal the entry toolbar and then select the Comment icon. Type your message and then click Add Comment.
When a comment is posted, the Comment notification is visible next to the entry timestamp. Click the Comment notification to display comments tied to the entry. Comments can also be deleted by hovering over the comment to reveal the trashcan icon. Comments are not saved to the revision history and cannot be undeleted.
Using the @Mentions feature in Comments can be used to direct the comment to a specific notebook member. Select @ to bring up a list of notebook members with access to the entry and select a name to mention and notify them of the comment.
The member will receive a notification in their Activity Feed and, if enabled, an email alert with the comment content included.
The @Mentions feature can also be used to share an entry with someone who does not yet have access to the notebook. Select the @ and type the email address of the member you'd like to gives access to the entry. The member will receive an email invitation to join the notebook and activate their LabArchives account if they did not have one. The invited member will have view-only access as a Guest to the entry.
