The Image Annotator allows you to label and edit image-based attachments (JPG, PNG, GIF) in your LabArchives Notebook. Before using the annotation tool, you must upload the image to your notebook. For instructions, please refer to the Attachments article.
.tif) format is not supported, as most browsers do not natively handle it. Almost all other standard image formats are compatible. To start annotating an image, click on the image or hover over it until the Image Annotator sidebar appears, then select the Annotate icon. The image will open in a new browser tab with access to the full set of annotation tools.
Once you save your annotations, they will appear directly on the Notebook page, along with a timestamp and revision history, allowing you to accurately track changes and document your work over time.
Annotation Tools
Once you've selected the option to annotate the image, the image will open in a separate tab and includes a variety of tools to help you draw, label, and edit your image effectively.

| Move Item | Moves added elements on the image. | |
| Eraser | Removes individual elements you've added. | |
| Text Tool | Adds text boxes to your image. | |
| Rotate Tools | Rotates the image (clears all annotations). | |
| Start Over | Clears everything on the canvas. | |
| Undo | Removes the last action. | |
| Straight/Arrow Line | Add a straight line or an arrow to the end of a straight line. | |
| Stroke Color/Width | Adjusts the color and thickness of lines. | |
| Fill Color/Opacity | Controls the color and transparency of filled shapes. |
