With LabArchives ELN, you can now upload an image of your handwritten lab notes and transform them into searchable text. The extracted text is stored alongside the original image. This feature is also available on mobile browsers, enabling you to use your phone camera to upload and transcribe handwritten notes directly from your lab bench or desk.
To extract text or handwriting from an image, first insert an attachment entry to your notebook page and add an image file. Click the checkbox that appears underneath: Extract Text or Handwriting from Image. You can also upload multiple images and extract text or from all image files at the same time.
Once your text is processed, an editable copy is stored within the attachment entry and can be viewed underneath the image thumbnail. You can choose to hide or reveal the text by clicking on the "Extracted Text” dropdown bar. Once text is extracted, it is also indexed and searchable.
To edit and reformat any of the extracted text, click the edit icon of the attachment entry and to access the text editor. The text editor functions the same as the Plain Text Entry Type.
Click Save to Page to update the output.
