Geneious Prime makes it easy to export biological data such as DNA sequences, alignments, and annotations. Once exported, the data can be uploaded to LabArchives for secure storage and sharing. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to add your Geneious data to LabArchives.

Exporting Data from Geneious
Start by opening Geneious Prime and selecting the document or dataset you want to export.
If multiple files need to be exported, hold Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) while selecting them. Once the necessary files are highlighted, navigate to the File menu and choose Export, or simply right-click the selection and choose Export from the dropdown menu.
Geneious offers several export formats, each suited for different types of data. FASTA works well for DNA and protein sequences, while GenBank or EMBL formats preserve annotations. CSV or Excel formats are useful for tabular data, and phylogenetic trees can be saved as Newick or Nexus files.
After choosing the appropriate format, a dialog box will prompt for a save location. You can either select an existing folder or create a new one. Once confirmed, the file will be saved, and a quick check in the selected folder ensures the export was successful.
Uploading to LabArchives
With the exported file saved locally, the next step is uploading it to LabArchives. Begin by logging in at LabArchives and navigating to the correct notebook. Once inside, find the section where you want to upload the exported data.
There are two ways to add files. The first method is using the Attachment Button in your Entry Bar.
Clicking this allows you to browse your files, select the exported data, and upload it to the notebook. Alternatively, you can use the drag-and-drop method—simply open your file explorer, locate the exported file, and drag it directly into the notebook entry.

Once the file is uploaded, it will appear within the notebook entry. Adding a brief description, such as Test DNA Sequence Export from Geneious, can help with organization. After saving, the file is securely stored and available for future reference or collaboration.
Viewing in LabArchives
With LabArchives’ integration with SnapGene, some Geneious files can be viewed within the ELN platform. If your file type is compatible, hover your mouse over the attachment and select the icon.
